Theater Photography & Videography
Every Production Deserves to Be Remembered
Theater is temporary by nature. Months of rehearsals, creative decisions, costumes, lighting, performances, and collaboration come together for a limited number of nights. Photography and video create a lasting record of that work while giving productions valuable imagery for promotion, archives, fundraising, future seasons, and the performers themselves.
I provide specialized theater photography and videography for productions, performers, schools, community theater groups, and arts organizations in San Miguel de Allende and the surrounding area.
From polished dress rehearsal photography to full-length performance video, my approach is centered around preserving the energy, emotion, and visual storytelling of live theater.
Theater Photography & Video Services

Performance Video
From $6,500 MXNPreserve your full production with a professionally filmed and edited performance video.
Each production is captured using a two-camera setup. A wide camera maintains coverage of the full stage and overall production, while a second camera allows for closer framing during scenes where fewer performers are on stage.
This creates a viewing experience that preserves the staging while allowing important performances and more intimate moments to be seen more clearly.
Dedicated microphones are also used to capture the production audio, followed by editing and sound enhancement in post-production.
Performance videos are ideal for:
- Production archives
- Cast and crew keepsakes
- Educational use
- Grant and funding documentation
- Audition or portfolio material where permitted
- Promotional excerpts
- Internal review

Dress Rehearsal Photography
From $4,500 MXNDress rehearsals offer one of the best opportunities to create strong production photography.
Without the limitations of photographing around a live audience, I can move more freely, anticipate important scenes, and capture the visual details that make the production distinctive.
The resulting gallery includes a combination of wider stage imagery, character moments, interactions, movement, emotion, costumes, lighting, and production details.
Images can be used for:
- Websites
- Social media
- Posters and promotional materials
- Press and publicity
- Grant applications
- Future season marketing
- Production archives
- Cast and crew memories
From $2,500 MXNProfessional portraits for actors and performers, photographed individually or as part of a larger cast session.
Headshots can be created specifically for the production or with broader performer use in mind.
Ideal for:
- Programs
- Cast pages
- Auditions
- Performer portfolios
- Websites
- Promotional materials

Rehearsal Documentation
From $3,500 MXNThe finished production is only one part of the story.
Rehearsal documentation captures the creative process as performers, directors, designers, and production teams bring the work to life.
These sessions have a more documentary feel, focusing on the relationships, experimentation, collaboration, and behind-the-scenes moments audiences rarely see.
Rehearsal photography is especially useful for:
- Social media storytelling
- Fundraising
- Grant documentation
- Behind-the-scenes content
- Organizational archives
- Documentary projects
- Promotion leading up to opening night
Performance Video That Preserves the Experience
Performance video sits somewhere between a basic archival recording and a large-scale cinematic production.
My approach is designed for theater companies and organizations that want a thoughtfully produced, professional record of their show.
Two cameras provide continuous coverage while allowing the edit to move closer when the staging supports it. During scenes with one or two performers, tighter framing helps preserve facial expressions and emotional nuance that can be lost in a completely static wide shot.
The editing remains intentionally connected to the experience of live theater, allowing the staging, performances, lighting, and direction to remain at the center of the finished video.
Optimized Audio
Sound is an essential part of documenting a live performance.
For performance video, I bring a dedicated microphone setup that typically includes a central microphone along with two additional side microphones. This provides broader coverage of the stage and helps capture dialogue, music, environmental sound, and audience response.
The recorded audio is edited in post-production to improve clarity, balance levels, and create the strongest final result possible.
Every theater and production presents different acoustic conditions. When performers are not individually miked, factors such as projection, room acoustics, audience noise, music levels, actor positioning, and the physical layout of the venue can affect what microphones are able to capture.
I work carefully with the available environment and equipment to produce the best possible audio while maintaining realistic expectations around live sound.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can we expect from the performance video?
Performance videos are created as polished documentation of the complete production.
I use two cameras so the full stage remains continuously covered while a second perspective allows for closer views during appropriate moments.
The final video is edited into a cohesive full-length recording designed to preserve both the overall staging and important individual performances.
Is this a cinematic multi-camera production?
The service is designed as professional theater documentation rather than a large-scale broadcast or cinematic production.
The focus remains on faithfully preserving the live performance while using multiple cameras, thoughtful framing, professional editing, and dedicated audio capture to create a more engaging finished video than a simple static recording.
If a production requires a more complex setup beyond this approach, we can discuss options on a case-by-case basis.
How is audio recorded?
I typically use three microphones positioned to capture sound across the performance space: one central microphone and two additional side microphones.
Audio is edited after the performance to improve clarity and balance.
When performers are not individually miked, final audio is influenced by the acoustics and conditions of the venue. I plan the recording setup carefully around those conditions while working within the natural limitations of live theater sound.
Do you photograph live performances?
Yes. Depending on the production, photography can take place during a dress rehearsal, live performance, or both. Live performances typically limit movement through the venue, which minimizes the quality and diversity of images that can be captured.
For the strongest variety of imagery, I generally recommend photographing a dress rehearsal whenever possible.
Can we book photography and video together?
Yes.
Many productions benefit from having both a full performance recording and a gallery of high-quality still photography. Combined packages are available and can be customized around your production.
Can you film more than one performance?
Yes.
Additional performance coverage can be added when needed. This can be useful when casts alternate, productions change between performances, or an organization would like the security of recording more than one show.
Do you work with schools and youth theater programs?
Yes.
I work with community productions, schools, youth theater programs, independent performers, arts organizations, and professional productions.
How long does delivery take?
Photography galleries are typically delivered within approximately two weeks.
If a dress rehearsal is photographed and you would like the images for marketing purposes, a rush delivery can be requested at the time of booking for a quicker turnaround. This is subject to availability, so we recommend booking well in advance if this is required.
Video timelines vary depending on the length and complexity of the production and will be discussed before booking.
